FMTouch deploys FileMaker Pro on the iPhone

FMWebschool released a new application called FMTouch that allows users to deploy FileMaker Pro on your iPhone or iPod touch.

FMTouch runs locally on your iPhone, which allows you to edit the database and then sync the changes back to FileMaker Pro when you get back to your computer. The company has a sync plug-in for both Mac and Windows available from its Web site.

The iPhone application behaves like you would expect. When tapping a phone number, it will dial the phone; tapping an email address will bring up a new email message.

FMTouch supports multiple related tables, layouts, portals, and value lists. You can add, edit, and delete records, as well as delete found sets, sort records, edit portal rows, search, find all records and use FileMaker generated runtimes, according to the company.

FMTouch requires FileMaker 8 or FileMaker 9. You also need FileMaker Advanced to transfer layout data to the iPhone — if you don’t have Advanced, FMWebschool is providing a way to do it for you.

The application is available on the App Store and costs $99.99. The current version is FMTouch 1.0, but the company has already uploaded version 1.6 and is waiting for that to go live.
