Review
If you've got an U2 Special Edition iPod, you've probably got conflicting desires: On the one hand, you want to keep it safe -- which means putting in a case. But on the other hand, you want to show it off -- after all, what's the point of getting the only non-white iPod ever if it's hidden inside a piece of plastic? If this sounds like you, Incase's Folio for U2 Special Edition case is the best compromise between solid protection and exhibitionist display; and it does your Special Edition right with a matching color scheme and a few luxurious touches.
The Folio is actually much like a standard flipcase in that it's got a main body that holds the iPod while leaving its controls exposed, along with a flipcover to protect the face and controls while listening. However, the Folio's flipcover opens/ to the left instead of the traditional top, and rather than using velcro to fasten the flipcover closed, the Folio provides two sturdy, metal snaps.
The case's outer surfaces are constructed of smooth black Nappa leather with red stitching; the inner surfaces are covered in soft red suede. But the Folio isn't just perfect for the U2 iPod because of its color scheme; thanks to a clear vinyl window on the back of the case, it's also the only case on the market that shows off your Special Edition's most unique feature: the band's engraved signatures.
The rear window means that the case doesn't protect the back of the iPod from impacts, and the top edge of the iPod is also exposed, but that's the price you pay for wanting to show off your Special Edition. If you've got a U2 iPod, this is the case to get.--Dan Frakes
